Male Rhinoplasty

Men are not as vain as we are. They just aren't. I am a woman and I can say this without reservation. Men do not agonize over shopping for a swimsuit, parading around naked at the gym in front of everyone, and have seldom, if ever, have been heard to ask,"Do I look fat in this?" No, men are not vain. They proudly wear their size 32 pants under their size 42 bellies with abandon, so why on earth would a man consider a nose job? Male rhinoplasty does exist and doctors say they are seeing an increase in male patients.

Ok, they can't all be actors or gigolos.Think about it. We live in a youth obsessed culture today. Jobs are hard to come by and there is nothing worse than being perceived to be old. Old equals " can't get the job done." to some people in upper management. Hence the popularity of the "Just for Men" line of products. Unfortunately as we age, things begin to sag. Sad, but true. Men are no exception. I recently read an article by a plastic surgeon who did rhinoplasty on a gentleman who felt that his nose was "growing." Of course, the nose does not grow, but the tissues do sag with age and as the nose droops, it can look bigger and longer.

This patient also had breathing issues, but what worried him was the big, droopy nose. I guess the side of the coin would be the young man who was mercilessly ridiculed in his teen years about his nose. Oh, the number of cruel nicknames kids can come up with. While many male athletes sport their crooked, previously broken noses as a badge of honor, some young men just want to look better.

The other reason men think about nose jobs is functional. Some men are afflicted with chronic stuffy noses due to physical defects or old injuries that make allergy season a year round event.. I know what you're thinking. It's hard enough to get your husband to his own doctor for a yearly physical, much less to a plastic surgeon. Good grief, it just isn't manly. Maybe not, but it is done more often these days.

I don't think that men want to look like someone else and a good surgeon can correct the breathing problem or make a subtle change that keeps your man looking like himself. No man wants to look like Kenny Rogers, heartthrob of my youth. This gorgeous guy is nearly unrecognizable due to overdone plastic surgery. Once the surgery is done, you can be prepared to pamper him through the recovery process. While he may tell his friends he got his nose done to fix an old football injury, no big deal, men are notorious babies. I say this with the utmost affection. My own precious husband is fond of saying, "I know you have a cold too, but I am soooo much sicker." Works every time. I'll just bet that when your man as fully recovered, you'll catch him in the mirror admiring his new profile if he thinks you are not watching.
